State Route 144 widening project update

Post Date:03/23/2020 7:23 PM

Due to the State Route 144 widening project, the section of 144 between Ogeechee Drive to McCrae Drive is scheduled for construction beginning Thursday, March 26. During this phase of the project, the intersections of 144 and Strathy Hall Road and 144 and Steele Wood Drive will be closed. Residents who normally use Strathy Hall Road will need to access it by using Ogeechee Drive. Residents who normally use Steele Wood Drive will need to access it by using McCrae Drive.

Also beginning March 26, the eastbound lane of 144 between Rabbit Hill and Charlies roads will shift onto new construction all the way to the roundabout, while the westbound lane will remain in place. Traffic will remain in this pattern until the median portion of this traffic shift is complete.

Once the westbound shift is complete in the next four to five weeks, traffic will be completely shifted off the old highway alignment onto new lanes from Timber Trail Road to Belfast River Road.

Motorists are encouraged to take note of the new traffic patterns and use caution when traveling in these areas. Although these changes and shifts are expected to begin March 26, the date may be advanced or delayed due to weather and field conditions. If that is the case, notification will be issued immediately. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
