Registration/Tags Periods:

INDIVIDUALS: Your registration expires on your birthday not the end of your birth month.

 

BUSINESSES: Your registration expires on the last day of your registration month.

 

New residents to Bryan County must register vehicles within 30 days of establishing legal resident status.

 

You may renew your registration 30 days prior to your expiration date.

 

No out of state or third party checks accepted.

 

You may renew your auto tag or view other information on the Georgia Department of Revenue's website.

Due Dates (New Homestead Filing Period See Below)

Real Property Taxes are due 60 days from the post-marked date on the tax bill. (Normally toward the end of the tax year)

 

Personal Property Taxes are due 60 days from the post-marked date on the tax bill. (Normally toward the end of the tax year)

 

Personal Property Mobile Homes Taxes are due No later than May 1st of each year.    

 

Real Property Tax Return period is from Jan 1 to April 1.

 

Personal Property Tax Return period is from Jan 1 to Jun 1.

 

Personal Property Mobile Home Return Period is from Jan 1 to Jun 1.

 

Homestead Exemption Filing period is from Jan 1 to March 1.

 

Original appeals must be filed within 45 days of the post-marked date on the assessment notice.

Penalties

A ten percent penalty and interest will be applied to all Ad Valorem taxes not paid by the date due.

 

All penalties are by law and cannot be waived. To avoid penalties, insure taxes are paid prior to the due date.

 

Property tax bills for property under appeal, which has not been resolved by the tax bill mailing date, shall be issued a temporary bill for 85% of the currently assessed value. After resolution, the taxpayer will be issued an addition bill or a refund, which ever applies.

 


TAX Rates:

Millage rates are expressed in MILS (one thousandth of a dollar). A Millage rate of .001 is expressed as 1 MIL.

1 MIL is equal to $1 for every $1000 of assessed value. Assessed value is equal to 40% of the appraised value.

Example:

appraised value: 100,000

assessed value(100,000 x 0.4)= 40,000

tax due @ 1MIL $40

tax due @ 25 MILs (25x40) $1,000
